Graamya is a social enterprise that offers experiential rural trips in the villages of Kerala. While the guests experience the cultures and traditions through an immersive rural experience, we also make sure that we contribute to the rural livelihood and the culture and traditions of that village is well preserved. Makkuvalli is a village located amidst the Idukki reserve forest of Kerala, India. This village is a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of even a small town or crowded tourist destinations. The immersive rural living experience at Makkuvalli is curated and managed by the villagers of Makkuvalli. The Makkuvalli experience, completely embedded with local culture, nature, traditional food and lovely people. we offer the authentic experience of how a normal day looks like in the life of a villager. This village has the same climatic conditions for most of an year. A visit to Makkuvalli is an all season activity.

Itinerary (01 Day)

    ✔ 09:00 AM - Reach the pick- up point around and start your jeep ride to the village, Makkuvalli through the thick forest of Idukki.
    ✔ Reach Makkuvalli, you will be welcomed by your host and introduced to your guide for the day. Take a guided nature walk with your guide and learn about local flora. Learn to climb a coconut tree, weave the leaves of a coconut tree, open a coconut from scratch and learn grating the coconut.
    ✔ 1:00 PM: Lunch at a village home (Simple home cooked meals- Veg/Non-veg as per preference). 
    ✔ Make a scare-crow like the people of Makkuvalli do to protect their crops (use your creativity- an activity for children in the group). Get into the farm and see multi cropping at its best. Learn all about cocoa- the base of any brown chocolate, and coffee varieties including the wild variant of coffee. 
    ✔ Learn the story of rice from farm to our plates. (Visit the paddy field, De-husk the grain by pounding, winnowing etc.) 
    ✔ Plant a sapling at the village (leave your footprints behind at Makkuvalli.
    ✔ 4:30 PM: Tea and traditional snacks at the village home 
    ✔ 5:30 PM: Drop to the pick-up point.

Thing to Remember

  • Please do not expect any luxury in community based tour packages
  • Poor mobile network signals and no wi-fi available.
  • We expect every guest to be respectful towards nature, local people or tribals
  • The community in Makkuvalli speak only Malayalam – Please pre-book a translator if required
  • Keep the environment green and clean

  • There are no shops available nearby, hence please carry items for your personal needs
  • Enough money for your personal use as there is no ATM’s available nearby
  • Hiking shoes - Optional
